The Power 5 System

The Power 5 is a set of cross-curricular strategies of instruction and assessment which, if used consistently and in combination:

  1. support equitable engagement and learning gains for academically and culturally diverse students within a class and school
  2. create a learning culture in which students and their teachers can hone the Essential Citizenship Competencies integral to Justice-Oriented Citizenship

These strategies scaffold student thinking and interaction in each part of a lesson.

These strategies scaffold student engagement in courageous conversations which arise from curricular outcomes, class & school contexts, and current events, from local to global.
